What We do

What we do

The Plant has two basic aims that dictate what we do:

Telling people about Jesus

We believe that Jesus is God's Son, and through him it is possible to be forgiven by God for rebelling against him, and to live with him as God's children forever. We put on events to tell people about Jesus.

We also make all our meetings accessible to someone who has never been to church before or thought about God and Jesus. We want to give people the chance to think about who Jesus is without making it difficult with religious language. We don't want anyone who comes to feel uncomfortable, or like they will have to do anything they don't want to.

We also run courses to explain the basic beliefs Christians have and why these matter.

Helping people carry on as Christians

As well as wanting to give people the chance to become Christians, we want to help them carry on in their faith once they are following Jesus. This is why we aim to show how the Bible applies to people who are followers of Jesus, and those who aren't, when we look at it in our meetings.

We also run courses and enquirers courses that people can join to learn more and think through what it means to be a Christian.

We are also keen to spend time praying together. As Christians we know that God answers prayers, but we don’t want to spend lots of time in our meetings praying, as this may be uncomfortable for many people who are not Christians. Because of this we also have prayer meetings.

Alongside these various meetings we also encourage members of The Plant to read the Bible and pray one-to-one with another Christian, or in a small group (we call these Bible Reading Partnerships, or MiniGroups). If you're interested, please get in touch with phil@theplant.net  .

We will also be organising various residential events in due course.
