Living Word, Salford - What We Believe

Our church is called ‘Living Word’ because we’re about Jesus, his Bible and its life-changing message:

Jesus

  • The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

In one of his biographies, Jesus Christ is described as ‘The Word’ – God’s message personified. In Jesus, God’s ‘Word’ lived and walked on this earth. In order to save humanity he sacrificed his life, but because God raised him from the dead, ‘The Word’ is still living today! This is who our church is named after; this is who we worship.

The Bible

  • The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

We experience the Bible as God’s living, active word. That’s why our church meetings centre on gathering to read the Bible together – we want to hear what God has to say to us. Some of us have been trained to teach the Bible, but everyone is encouraged to chat about it together so that we can help one another live as servants of Jesus Christ.

Life-changing message

  • Love one another earnestly from a pure heart,  since you have been born again… through the living and abiding word of God (1 Peter 1:22-23)

We believe that through God’s word, our lives can be so transformed that it’s like being born all over again! This new life is characterised by self-giving love inspired by Jesus’ own example. That’s why we want to share Jesus’ amazing message and live lives that are consistent with it.

THE PLANT CHURCHES

I have found the Plant to be like a close family- nurturing, encouraging, comforting, bantering and rebuking (when necessary... and always in love!). Through my years in this family I've seen how the focus on Christ and on building the church on God's words ensures that the body stays strong through the many ups and downs that come with family life. The great thing about this family is that it is by no means exclusive- it has been a joy to be part of the ongoing outreach and meeting the new people who join us each week, term and year.
